Actually, it did work. Though I've similar doubts about this post...

ObLameHack:  Our sysop at work was notoriously bad about not checking his
mail (because it usually had problem reports in it) so i wrote a little
script that checks to see the last time he checked his mail. I used the file
modification dates in his mail file (lame) but at this place, there's always
more stuff to delete...
